Noodle: From an Old Tradition to Worldwide Sensation!

We all love a hearty plate of Italian spaghetti or a warm spicy Hakka noddle complimented with the right curry, don’t we? While many associate noodles with Italian origin, most also people that Noodle came from the lands of China. The debate doesn’t seem to end easily.

Both, the Chinese and Italian version of noodles are fondly loved by people around the world. What started as boiled bits of wheat has gained elaborate popularity over the years. Origin of Noodles


Noodles have been mentioned as early as A.D in the Chinese historical scripts and manuscripts. These long strands of dough were invented in the land of China as little bits of bread dough cooked in boiling water. Eventually, their shape changed and became popular as long strands of dough. While these noodles were made from wheat flour and water, Chinese also made vermicelli noodles from rice flour. During that time rice and wheat noodles were greatly used throughout Asia.

Another form of noodle that is quite famous and popular is La Main. It is almost an art form to prepare this noodle. Therefore only a few of top 10 restaurants in Jaipur serve la main. To prepare la main, the dough is stretched between both hands in length, the ends are folded and again it is stretched. The thinner they are, the longer they become.

Apart from China, noodles have also been mentioned in Jerusalem, Talmud. These Chinese noodles then made their way to Asia, Korea, and Japan finally entering the European Market.


Chinese Noodle or Italian Spaghetti?

Well, this is debatable. While Chinese prepare varieties of thing long noodles, Italians have their way of having this boiled dough. They either have as flat thin strips of dough, or thick long strands or extremely thin angel hair-like noodles. However you have them, both are noodles and both are extremely tempting.
